Comparing the Subaru Outback to Toyota RAV4 Near Bedford

When it comes to dependability, it's tough to beat a Subaru.  Subaru is dedicated to engineering vehicles that you'll have far longer than one might expect.  You'll be equipped with more standard safety features, modern style, and standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, just to name a few of the many perks of owning a Subaru.

The Subaru Outback is one of our most popular models here at Toyota Subaru Bloomington, but many Bedford drivers often ask us how it stacks up to the Toyota RAV4.  The RAV4 shares many similarities to the Outback, but they are far from equal.  To learn more about the major similarities between the two, continue reading and see which model feels like your perfect fit.

Power & Fuel Efficiency

While both models offer seating for up to five, what's under the hood varies between the two models.

The 2021 Subaru Outback comes standard with a 2.4 L 4-cyclinder engine that's paired to a six-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive system. This engine achieves up to 26 MPG in the city and up to 33 MPG on the highway.  The gas tank can hold up to 16.6 gallons.

The Toyota RAV4 comes standard with a 2.5-liter inline-4 engine mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drivetrain, which is a very noteworthy difference.  This engine gets up to 27 MPG in the city and 35 MPG on the highway, and the tank can hold up to 14.5 gallons.

Overall, the major differences we see are in the drivetrain.  The Subaru Outback will give you better tractions and handling in Spencer thanks to its all-wheel drive system, which you will have to pay more for in the RAV4.  And, while the RAV4 seems to have more efficiency because its fuel tank is smaller, you'll be filling up around the same time in both models.

Interior Function & Space

The Subaru Outback is going to be a bit more comfortable for your taller passengers thanks to the 42.8 inches of front seat leg room. There is also more cargo space with the seats folded down, coming in at 75.7 cubic feet.  The RAV4 only offers 41 inches in the front. But, the RAV4 does offer a large cargo space coming in at 69.8 cubic feet total.

Safety Features

Both the 2021 Subaru Outback and 2021 Toyota RAV4 are well outfitted in standard safety equipment.  Both models come standard with Stability Control, Brake Assist, Tire Pressure Monitor, Tractions Control, reverse camera, and both scored an overall five stars from the NHTSA for crash test results.

Design

The new Outback and the new RAV4 are both modern with sporty finishes. While style is always a personal preference, we feel that the Outback has a more robust and aggressive feel, plus the lower stance will give you a more aerodynamic driving experience, which increases overall efficiency.
