Comparing Subaru to the Honda Brand at Royal Subaru

Honda and Subaru share a number of virtues that make them popular brands among daily commuters. Both of these brands are known for their long-term value, innovative safety features, and affordably-priced cars/SUVs. Both brands make versatile SUVs and efficient sedan/hatchback models as well. But which is the better choice for you? We compared the top models of these two brands, and we want to share with you our findings here at Royal Subaru.

Subaru Outback vs Honda CR-V

A critical shortcoming of most Honda models, including the CR-V is their lack of standard AWD. The Subaru Outback features standard Symmetrical AWD, whereas the Honda CR-V comes standard with 2WD, while AWD costs slightly extra.

The standard engine of the Outback features a fuel tank capacity of 18.5 gallons, giving it more long-term fuel economy over the CR-V, which holds 14 gallons of fuel. The standard Lineartronic® automatic transmission of the Outback also produces smoother and more seamless gear shifts compared to the two-speed CVT of the CR-V.

While the engine of the CR-V might offer more horsepower, the Outback has a higher towing capacity of 2,700 lbs., thanks to the AWD system and X-MODE®. The CR-V can tow up to 1,500 lbs. maximum. The Subaru Outback also has more breathing room on the inside for all five passengers as you drive through Martinsville, IN.

Subaru Forester vs Honda CR-V

The Subaru Forester is one of the most spacious SUVs of its class, with up to 111.9 cubic feet of passenger volume, compared to the 105.9 cubic feet of the Honda CR-V.

Drivers  who need more fuel efficiency form their SUV should also consider the Forester, which holds up top 16.6 gallons of fuel compared to the 14-gallon capacity of the Honda CR-V. The Forester also comes standard with Symmetrical AWD, whereas the Honda CR-V comes standard with 2WD. Only the highest trim of the CR-V offers standard AWD.

The Forester also offers some features exclusive mostly to this brand, including the available windshield wiper de-icer on the All-Weather Package.

Subaru Ascent vs Honda Pilot

The standard performance of the Subaru Ascent generates more traction at 277 pound-feet, which greatly improves the capability of the AWD system. The Honda Pilot's standard V6 performance generates 262 pound-feet of torque.

The Ascent is also the more fuel efficient SUV for daily driving in Bedford, IN, traveling up to 21 mpg compared to the 20 mpg city fuel economy of the Honda Pilot.

While both have available seating for eight the Ascent has a higher passenger volume of almost 154 cubic feet, with 17.8 cubic feet of cargo volume behind the third row. The Pilot contains a passenger volume of 152.9 cubic feet with 16.5 cubic feet of standard cargo space.

Subaru Crosstrek vs Honda HR-V

The Subaru Crosstrek offers  standard performance capability, generating up to 152-horsepower and 145 pound-feet of torque, with a maximum towing capacity of 1,500 lbs. The HR-V's standard engine generates 141-horsepower and 127 pound-feet of torque. It does not have a listed towing capacity and is generally not recommended for hauling heavy items.

The Crosstrek's available Lineartronic automatic transmission produces smoother gear transitions when you accelerate; this crossover even comes standard with six-speed manual transmission. The Honda HR-V's standard CVT produces a clunkier and more imprecise acceleration.

All Crosstrek trims come standard with Subaru Symmetrical AWD, which costs extra to add to the Honda HR-V.

Subaru Impreza vs Honda Civic

Whereas some Honda models only come available with AWD, the Civic has yet to offer this drivetrain at all. Meanwhile, every trim of the Subaru Impreza sedan/hatchback come standard with Subaru Symmetrical AWD.

The Impreza sedan features a passenger volume of 99.8 cubic feet, with more legroom up front for you and your copilot. The Honda Civic contains a passenger volume of 97.8 cubic feet.

Shoppers will find many more standard conveniences on the Impreza than on the Civic, including an in-glass antennae. The Impreza also comes available with a windshield wiper de-icer, which is unavailable on all Honda models including the Civic.

Subaru Legacy vs Honda Accord

The Subaru Legacy is ultimately the more fuel efficient choice for daily travelers in Spencer, IN, with a fuel tank capacity of 18.5 gallons. The Honda Accord contains 14.8 gallons of fuel.

Similarly to the Civic, the Honda Accord does not come available with AWD, whereas Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel-Drive is the standard drivetrain on all Impreza sedan and hatchback models.

While both SUVs are similarly equipped with many of the same features, the Subaru Legacy starts out almost $2,000 less than the MSRP of the Honda Accord.
